a7s slog2 3d luts for shogun

with atomos releasing the 6.2 firmware today, supporting dnxhr and 3d luts among other things i decided to share the 3d luts that i use for the a7s in slog2 (sgamut).
these are all based off of sonys f65/55 lut for slog2, so they should be a great starting point for coloring in post. i find it’s much easier to compose and light a scene if i have an idea of what it’ll end up looking like (as opposed to guessing based off of a flat image). so you can light with these, and still retain all the latitude of slog2 for post tweaking.
these were designed to be used with the shogun, but should work just fine with slog2/sgamut right out of the camera as well. i rarely apply a lut without fiddling with something, so i imagine you will want to personalize them to taste.

that all being said, here are the 4 that i find most useful:

slog2/sgamut reference photo:
this is the ungraded slog2/sgamut image.

this is the most contrasted and saturated lut. if you absolutely can’t tweak in post, this should generally give you a deliverable image with natural skin tones

this reminds me of the neutral canon 5d setting i used to shoot in a lot a few years ago. similar to the ‘natural’ lut, but less contrast and about 20% less saturation.

kodak 2393 film print:
based off of a kodak 2393 film print lut i found online, merged with some of the sony lut for color. delivers a contrasty, desaturated filmic look.

fuji 2393 film print:
based off of a fuji 2393 film print lut i found online, merged with some of the sony lut for color. delivers a contrasty, desaturated filmic look.

these luts are free to use (for now) but i’d appreciate any credit when applicable. and if you want to share these luts on your website, please link back to this page instead of directly to the files.

leave feedback for any ideas for luts you’d like to see!

UPDATE: new rec709(ish) lut

how to load a lut into the shogun (firmware 6.2+):

1. mount a formatted shogun drive to your computer
2. copy .cube files to the shogun drive
3. un-mount drive from computer, mount into shogun
4. tap 3d lut icon on upper right side of shogun screen
5 select an empty number slot (by default, 1 is a canon lut)
6. after selecting your desired slot, click the folder icon, and then select one of the lut .cube files

once you’ve loaded all the luts you want, the luts will remain there even after using another drive. you’ll be able to overwrite the luts if you want to by selecting your lut slot, and clicking the folder icon again.
